They say music flows within her veins, from birth her father, veteran
calypsonian "The Mighty Destroyer", was actually on stage competing in a major
calypso competition. Keisha was surrounded by music in all ways from a very
tender age. Her first on stage performance was at the tender age of six when her
father called her on stage to "wine down" to one of his song then entitled "Rub
Up" - something Keisha was known oh too well for, her ability to dance. However,
it was only after watching a video recording of today's soca sensation Machael
Montano performing his song "Soca Radio" in a Junior Calypso competition in
Trinidad, that Keisha expressed her interest to her dad of competing at junior
level competition.
This was the simple start of Keisha's vibrant singing career. Keisha's first
year of competition and first year of triumph was at the age of nine. Keisha
took the stage by storm, for not only once, but victorious for two (2)
consecutive years; 1992 and 1993. For those who knew her rather shy and reserved
demeanor were in awe at her performance, which was a combination of true
confidence complimented by dynamic waistline gyrations whenever she graced the
stage. It was from this very early stage that the name Keisha Christian became a
household name, manifesting an impressionable presence on the minds of those who
knew that she be recognized as one of Barbados' finest female entertainers.
Keisha's singing career was halted on entering secondary school as she became
hugely active in the Barbados Cadet Corps. Keisha however vowed to return to the
stage - a promise she fulfilled in November 2000, when she became the lone
female vocalist of the talented, energetic and dynamic band ELECTRIK. Since
then, Keisha has continued to do justice to her fans - now a two-time Party
Monarch Finalist; 2004 and 2005, landing hits such as "Hold yah Hose" and "When
I Wanted To Be With You" which made the Top Ten chart on various regional and
international music charts.
She was the first holder of the "Best Ragga Soca Female Artiste" title with her
hit single "Love Zone" at the first ever Barbados Music Awards in 2006.
For Crop Over 2007; Keisha released "Territory" and "Think About You"
which were written and produced by and are featured on the .album.
Fans can expect much more from this entertainer and mother, not just as a soca
artiste but as a holistic artiste, who loves and appreciates all genres of
music.
Never to be underestimated as an artiste, Keisha is truly a rising star!
