Each year, the Barbados Music Award of Excellence is presented by the event
director Mr. Ronnie Morris to an artist who is making strides in the regional
and international market. It has previously been presented to Rhianna, Shontelle,
Livvi Franc, Edwin Yearwood, Alison Hinds and Rupee. According to Mr. Morris,
Peter Ram was selected as this year’s recipient because, “although he has
received so many foreign nominations and awards, we believe that Mr. Wiggins’
current foreign popularity, along with his contribution to soca and reggae,
added with his standing as one of Barbados’ most prolific and successful
songwriters have not adequately been heralded in Barbados. His hits including
‘Woman By My Side’, ‘Pumpin’’ and ‘Get Ready To Wine’ (with Alison Hinds and Top
Class Bubbler(also with Hinds) among others have transcended Barbados’ shores
and were significant hits across the Caribbean and in various markets within the
United States, Canada and the UK in particular.
It is our honor to recognize his
stellar achievements in this manner and he is truly deserving of this
prestigious award.” In 2007 Peter Ram won the International Soca Award for Best Collaboration for
the remix of “Woman By My Side” with Trinidadian Shurwayne Winchester. A past
finalist in the Party Monarch and Pic O de Crop competitions he took the Best
Nation Building title in 2003 with his smash hit “The Pledge.” His music videos
have taken his profile to another level and can all be seen on VH1 Soul, MTVN
TEMPO, Synergy TV (Trinidad) and numerous other channels. Most recently he
entered regional video charts with Pumpin and following on its heels is likely
to be his most recent hit “Tight” which was shot in Kingston Jamaica by leading
video director Jay Will of Jay Will Films.Quite apart from his talent as artist, Peter Ram has held a long term endorsement with Total Sport as their local ambassador for the Puma brand and is the weekly host of a radio show on HOTT 95.3 FM. Whilst his touring schedule remains hectic Peter Ram continues to write and evolve as an artist. “Over the past three years under Pyramid management we have seen Peter Ram grow from strength to strength and we applaud his achievements and look forward to even greater achievements from him in the future,” says Santia Bradshaw, CEO Pyramid Entertainment. |
