On December 6th 2008 the Wildey Gymnasium was transformed into the Best of
Both Worlds. The venue was thronged with patrons who clamored for "A Moment in
Time" with golden voiced crooner Beres Hammond and fellow Dancehall
superstar, Cham.
Hammond, the premier performer on the night, rendered many of the top tracks
which have spanned his successful career. The highlight of the night was his
performance of his new single "I Feel Good" which has been receiving
massive rotation. This song was an apt description of the mood that permeated
through the crowd who had enjoyed a characteristically electric performance from
himself and Jamaican counterpart Cham.
Cham hyped the appreciative crowd from the time he emerged on the stage. The
ladies in the crowd were clearly enamored with the engaging performer as he
belted out hits spanning from the ever popular 'Vitamin S' to the
Billboard Hit Single 'Ghetto Story'.
He was ably supported by Norris Man who brought his cool mellow style to
the event. He impressed the crowd with his smooth style that hardly veered from
his albums.
Local rising band Masala, described as one of the most versatile bands on
the island proved why there were deserving of this title. The event was used to
premiere some of lead singer Philip 7's recently Jamaican produced reggae
releases which he has recorded with some of Jamaica's leading producers
including the likes of Richard 'Shams' Browne and Stephen McGregor,
Donovan Germaine.
Songs such as 'Who You Are', "In My Heart", "Looking For"
and the reggae version of "Beautiful Surprise" which was produced by
Clive Hunte, all peaked the attention of several reggae fans. The vocal
range of Philip 7, was evident as the band touched on every genre during their
45 minute set.
Also well received was another local artistes Buggy who continues to
impress Barbadian audiences with his international quality material which
includes a collaboration with world-renowned Sizzla.
Although Beres and Cham satisfied the audience with the string of hits, the
future of reggae music with local rising stars Buggy and Philip 7 certainly
looks promising.
